If Y and Z are symmetric, then Z U Y is symmetric. How do I prove this or disprove?

Pf using contradiction.
Suppose z union y is not symmetric. Then there exists an element (a, b) such that (b, a) is not in z union y.
Since (a, b) is in z union y, then (a, b) is in z or in y.
If it is in z and z is symmetric, then (b, a) shld...
Similarly if it is in y,..
