Why does the UK have a weaker economy and poorer infrastructure than Germany when it was the winner of WW2 ?
Britain had a massive Empire and was the most powerful country in the world. Both Germany and the UK were devastated after WW2 but why do we so Germany so much more advanced than the UK on almost all economic levels. This is also true of other European countries such as France who have much better roads, schools, hospitals and public transportation.

Because the UK thinking they had won the war reverted back to the old ways - a class dominating society.
The Germans on the other hand invested in education and in rebuilding a society based on what you know not on who you know. They invested in new larger factories that were designed to develop products for the export market and companies that could compete globally. They made sure that the workforce would have good wages, union representation and when they retired decent pensions and they made sure that there was enough money spent on education to ensure that the right skills were being taught so there was considerable social mobility. The factories were not hidebound by a "them and us" attitude and used modern manufacturing techniques. Lastly everyone worked hard to make the success happen.

Because the US and the Soviet Union entered the war and provided the necessary manpower and assets to do the Job. In December 1940 the Exchequer in a secret meeting with FDR, the heads of Congress and the Chiefs of Staff said that the Bank of England was broke and if something was not done soon that England would be forced to sue for peace. If the US not started the Lend Lease Program in the Spring of 1941 Britain would have had no choice but to surrender.

Because both France and Germany were effectively rebuilt after the war by America who lent both nations hundreds of Billions of dollars of several decades, the UK was not given any money by the US once the war ended.

Possibly cos unlike Germany we didn't have millions of dollars to help rebuilt our infrastructure after 1945
