Allow me to chip in.
You can explain "important" in the following way:
Something that is important is very significant, is highly valued, or is necessary.
Someone who is important has influence or power within a society or a particular group.
You can also give some examples.
Just my two cents.

r035152000, I can give you some commonly used adjectives at Form 6 level but do you want their meaning in Chinese or English?

r035152000, as the adjectives are almost in their simplest form, it is hard to explain what they mean in English. For example, we all know what 'important' means but it is difficult to explain in English. I am sorry I cannot help you with this question.

Then we end up in explaining the adjectives in more complicated terms. I thought the entire purpose of explaining something was to give its meaning in simpler terms.

I used 'important' as one example. I am now thinking of another - holy. If I tell every one it menas 'something of God', this would be an approximate meaning. It is not quite acceptable to me but I cannot do better than that. I am not confident in answering this question.
