Is a book printed the same day it is released?

Say JK Rowling sent her last revision of Harry Potter and the editors/publishing company says the book will be released on January 1st. (as in you can pre order it and it will arrive at your house on Jan 1). Is the book printed/bound on the same day or does the printing company make the book and keep it at the factory until it is an appropriate time to mail out the book????

i know it kind of seems like an obvious answer but im not totally sure.

Yes, it's a question with a very obvious answer.

I'm sure if you thought about it - you could figure it out.

How can they possibly print, bind and deliver to thousands - if not millions of people - as well as bookstores on the same day? How many hours do you think are in one day?

Yes, it's printed, bound and delivered to bookstores or wherever pre-ordered weeks in advance of release date. Just not allowed to be put on shelves or for sale until release date.
