Been to Trinidad 5 times.
Half my family lives in Trinidad and we have many friends who live there.
It is a wonderful country to visit. The people are very friendly and the food its great. Try Doubles. Like everywhere in the world you still have to be careful were you go and when you go. Get a tour guide.
Yes Trinidadians have an accent. And they always like to make jokes and have a good time. And trust me the Trinidadian people know how to have a good time. They love music and dancing. Great people to be with. There are white people who live in Trinidad. But most of the population is black or Indian. They are not racist. In fact if you are white they would more likely talk to you. But you have to always be careful when you are talking to strangers in any country. Also Trinidadians do not like people who show off. And do not show of your wealth. This is if you are wealthy. So if you go to the beach do not take valuables with you.
Trinidad is mostly an industrial Island and is rich. If you are looking for beautiful beaches and quiet places go to Tobago. Paradise.
I am longing to return.
Enjoy, be safe, and relax.
