Rooster, you're an idiot. The g stands for gauge, not grams.

An 18g stud is bigger than a 20g. So a 22g nose ring would be smaller than a 20g. And yes they do make 22g, but it's not recommended. It's too tiny, and most of the time you can't get 22g in a high quality metal. It's just cheap Claire's sh*t. Stick with the 20g.

It should be fine. An 18g is only 0.2mm larger than a 20g, so although you stretched it, it was only by a teeny amount, plus you've had it pierced for a long time, so it's probably been fully healed for a while now. You didn't have a hard time getting it in, so it's probably like you're saying, & it's probably because you just did it. Chances are it'll be better in a day or so. But if for whatever reason it's not, I'd think the likely cause would be the material of the jewelry & not the size. So if it gets worse or just won't feel any better, it's probably something about the new stud

gram measurement does not measure mass. gram is a measurement of weight.

20 grams weighs more than 18 grams, but it doesn't mean that something 20 grams will be 'bigger' than 18 grams.

pure gold measuring 20 grams will have less mass than 18 grams of pure silver.

in other words 20 grams of gold looks much smaller than 18 grams of pure silver.

When it comes to nose studs that are made with the exact metal composition and ratios of alloys, a 20 gram stud will weigh more than the 18 gram stud, therefore, with respect to alloy composition ratios, the 20 gram stud will be bigger.
