Why is San Andreas an island in GTA V?

What happened? In GTA: San Andreas, the state was and just connected to the country, and now it is an island..

Islands are easier to confine a game location.

In the GTA: San Andreas, GTA: IV, and GTA: V they are all islands.

It would be strange to have a modern era game on the continental North America without a very strange (artificial) excuse to not be able to drive across country.

In the Swords & Dragons games they usually also have islands and Mountains to confine the player, but if you've played them you will find it confusing when you walk into the Invisible wall while exploring.

Because this isn't GTA San Andreas. This is GTA V. San Andreas does not exist in this game.
