Dred Scott v. Sandford: ruled that African Americans were not citizens and had no legal to sue to challenge laws allowing slavery. It was the reason that the 13th and 14th Amendments were later passed amending the Constitution.
Plessy v. Ferguson ruled that 'separate but equal' railroad car accommodations were constitutional, thereby paving the way for separate but supposedly equal public facilities in the United States for many years to come (segregation).
