\$30 went for a flat fee.

So 52.50 - 30 = mileage.

So John spent \$22.50 on miles @ 10¢ per mile

0.10m = 22.50

m = 225

0.1 m =22.5

m=22.5/0.1

m=225

C(x) = 0.1x + 30, where x is the number of miles driven.

If C(x) = 52.5,

0.1x + 30 = 52.5

0.1x = 52.5 - 30

0.1x = 22.5

x = 22.5 / 0.1
