What books would you recommend for child detective stories/series for the ages 7-13?

    At that age, I loved the Encyclopedia Brown series. Trixie Belden was a big favorite (although those stories would seem very dated now), and the "Meg" mysteries by Holly Beth Walker. Encyclopedia Brown lets the child try to figure out the solution before it gives up all its secrets; you turn to the end to read how E.B. solves each mystery. I always had a blast trying to figure each one out, but the stories were still fun to read again even after you knew the outcomes. :)
