can we use dc shunt motor for electric car?

we have taken electric car as our final year project . for electric car upto 500kg (with peoples)can we use shunt motor . we think series motor will be best for this application as it needs high starting torque . but one of friend told shunt ill be best as it has constant speed . which motor we can prefer . also tell about that motor controller

thank u

A couple of friends & I messed with an old VW Beetle and 3 different electric motors: one a wound rotor motor used formerly on a piece of bakery equipment, the second a part of a motor generator set, and the third a commercial shunt wound 20 horsepower one. if we'd not been living in a hilly area, even the first one would have been just fine. with the hills here our car, loaded up with 3 adults and 140 volts of lead acid used telephone office ones the second motor could do only 5 mph up the hill to my house.

the commercial motor can make the Bug go about 50mph with 150 volts of these used batts and a Curtiss Electronic controller. So you've got lots of choices to make. we were into using everything from the dump or junkyard until we understood the problems firsthand. the 3rd motor and controller worked for our 3rd collaborator because he lived some distance from town, wanted an electric vehicle to consume the surplus electricity his solar electric array produced that the utility wasn't compensating him for.

confident, once you post this kind of question you're able to to envision the selection plate info. Now if the motor is 13HP non-give up motor. there could be 3 kind of connections. sequence connection, Shunt or parallel connection or Compound connection. As you clarify there is in elementary terms 4 terminals ability optimistic the motor is the two sequence or shunt yet no longer compound. next you verify the resistance of the two pair and evaluate the resistance of them, if armature resistance is way less then field resistance, ability motor is sequence and if field resistance is extra then armature resistance then motor is shunt motor. yet do no longer make connection as shunt connection. First you're making sequence connection and supply the rated voltage positioned ampere meter and speedometer and verify for few 2nd if motor is shifting on the factor of rated velocity and taking 30% of finished load contemporary then that's optimistic you probably did exact connection. yet while motor isn't shifting or taking very much less contemporary and/or very sluggish then connect the motor as shunt. provide the regulated low voltage for few 2nd and spot the present, velocity and voltage. If the present and velocity is proportional to the utilized voltage, then provide the completed voltage and spot the present and velocity, despite the fact that if that's ok ability your motor is shunt motor make everlasting connection with change or starter. be careful for marvel and blunder in connection.
