can we use dc shunt motor for electric car?
we have taken electric car as our final year project . for electric car upto 500kg (with peoples)can we use shunt motor . we think series motor will be best for this application as it needs high starting torque . but one of friend told shunt ill be best as it has constant speed . which motor we can prefer . also tell about that motor controller

A couple of friends & I messed with an old VW Beetle and 3 different electric motors: one a wound rotor motor used formerly on a piece of bakery equipment, the second a part of a motor generator set, and the third a commercial shunt wound 20 horsepower one. if we'd not been living in a hilly area, even the first one would have been just fine. with the hills here our car, loaded up with 3 adults and 140 volts of lead acid used telephone office ones the second motor could do only 5 mph up the hill to my house.
the commercial motor can make the Bug go about 50mph with 150 volts of these used batts and a Curtiss Electronic controller.
