GIMP 2.8 - Do .abr files really work on it now?

But why is everyone still on about that abrViewer thing if this is the case?

Yes .abr brushes work natively in GIMP 2.8 - you do not need any extra plug-ins or converters to use them.

Have you checked the date on the stuff your viewing? It's obviously out dated, or perhaps they just have no clue what they're talking about.

If you are having problems, you need to put the .abr files in your GIMP brushes folder - if you use Windows then it's located at C:\Users\ YourUserName\ .gimp-2.8\brushes Then in GIMP press the refresh icon in the brushes palette, or quit and restart GIMP.

Sigh. The top two hits for "gimp abr" on Google answer this categorically. One is even a video explaining how this can be done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5PvYW_3ogs
