We also wanted to bring to your attention the attached Tax Exemption Certificate to be applied against the foreign taxes charged on the royalty payments. American Foundation for the Blind is an exempt organization under section 501(c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, which is an exemption from taxation. The United States has tax treaties with a number of foreign countries including Taiwan. Under these treaties, residents or citizens of the United States are taxed at a reduced rate, or are exempt from foreign taxes on certain items of income they receive from sources within foreign countries.
Would the attached Form 6166 Certificate exempt us from or reduce the withholding tax of 20% on royalties?
