So I got to Chicago safe and sound, I turned on the TV and they talked about someone getting mugged?

Is that Normal? Also I rode a train there. I got pretty sleepy.

Update:

I am here for a trip.

Also I never really Been to a major US city before.

    Your question is not much of a question but best answer I can give is; I live in Chicago and there is a lot of crime and murder here, I think we are actually leading the nation in murders, muggings happen all the time and rarely even make the news, its common to take public transportation, and yes its tiring to travel.

    The only thing that was unusual is that it was reported on TV. Where I live they a only report Homicides on the TV news

    It's normal. Just to be safe I'd leave my valuables at home. That includes any expensive jewelry, money, etc.

    I survived New York... Just stay in well-lit public areas, you should be safer

    No, that's not normal at all.

    Usually there's more crime.
