Is it legal for minors to get engaged in America?

Just a random question that popped up in my head

Yes. "Engaged" is nothing. It simply means they plan to get married. It is not bound by law in any way.

Now, if a minor wants to get married, they would need signed parental consent.

Laws vary from state to state. In most states minors may get married with parental permission. Minimum age varies from 13 to 17. For some reason adults under the age of 21 need parental permission in Mississippi. An engagement has been considered a legal contract in courts in the past, that's why judges have required that engagement rings be given back if there is no marriage. Since minors can't enter into legal contracts it's an interesting question. I guess there would be no legal recognition of said engagement, and if an expensive ring was given there would be no legal requirement to give it back if the marriage never actually happened.

You can be engaged from the moment you're born.

This is called - A Family Arranged Marriage and it happens in the middle East & Asia.

An engagement is not a legal contract. It is OK if their parents approve.

If nobody knows, its legal. Marriage is better when you don't have it in a binding contract. Government don't interfere with you until you go beyond that. Good luck.
