Kawasaki bayou 220 overheating?

My kawasaki bayou 220 is getting really hot! It seems like it the head that's getting hot. It heats up the plastics and gas tank. It also back fires a little. Anyone have any idea what it could be?? My oil level is where it should be.

Sounds like it is running a little lean. This would explain the heat and backfiring. I am thinking your main jet is partially clogged. Pull it and clean it. Just because you can see thru it doesn't mean it's clean. I have seen many of them with a thin scale inside the jet. I like to use a gas torch tip cleaner as they have many sizes and they will grind out the scale like material in the jet. You can pick one up at the auto parts for a few bucks.
