if liberals want to pay taxes to help the poor....?

then why dont people who want to pay taxes to help the poor pay those taxes and people who dont want to help the poor pay less taxes. it shouldnt be everyones responsibility to help the poor, so only people that want to help the poor should help the poor. i dont care about the poor, let them save themselves, but if you want to help the poor be my guest.

no socratic method here.

Update 2:

You sound like such a selfish right wing capitalist right now...

Its the job of the government to provide welfare and support for the poor through a progressive tax system which evens out the divides between the rich and the poor. The tax revenue should be spent on a well funded welfare and education system that both keeps people of the road, but also gives them the knowledge and skills required to form a well functioning society. The weak and poor most definitely hold everyone back. They were simply pushed down by those corporates and other money minded individuals who are hell bent on maximizing their wealth and only their wealth. The governments job is to take from the rich and give to the poor in an effort to balance out society in order to maintain peace and prosperity. The poor do not need to be poor, they can be key parts of our nation and our society, all they need is a helping hand. One that we should be willing to openly give out of our sense of patriotism and comradeship. Aren't we all part of the same country? Do we not all fight for the same goals?

Long story short, the Swedish system is ideal. A system in which the average tax rate is hovering around 55% and the tax revenue is spent predominantly on Education, Social Welfare and Healthcare. Of course there must also be a well funded police force and tax agency with the power to strike down upon any and all tax evaders. Military should definitely not be a main priority in the budget, I reckon only around 5% of the budget should go towards military. Heck you could be like good ol' New Zealand (Where I live) and have a military budget so small that it comes under the "Other" catagory... I think we only have like 5 navy ships in total :)

"We need the Liberal ideology as much as Custer needed another Indian!"

The Liberal ideology is a theory which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality.

They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class.

The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

A democracy will continue to exist up until

the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous

gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority

always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from

the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally

    collapse over loose fiscal policy
