My Laptop Will NOT Shut Down...Please HELP!?

When I go to shut down my laptop (Dell) it allows me to select shutdown. It then goes to the shutdown screen and then never shutsdown. It says on that screen (the one that says Shutting Down....) for up to an hour. After the hour is up, I press the button to shut it off because I'm sick of waiting. What could be causing this problem that won't allow my laptop to shut off?

Please help!!!

    You may run a diagnostic test on system hardware to ensure correct functionality of

    system hardware by following the steps below:

    • Restart your computer and tap F12 at Dell logo.

    • Highlight 'Diagnostics' and hit Enter.

    • Make a note of error code if any.

    If the test fails and generates any error code, it might be issue with system hardware and might need replacement.
