One of the biggest highlights was certainly Dawn Approach and Toronado's epic battle in the St James' Palace Stakes, which Dawn Approach won by a nose. On the Wednesday Al Kazeem winning the Prince of Wales' Stakes in the last strides from the ever-so-game Mukhadram was great to watch and proved a springboard towards the Roger Charlton trained horse being the premier middle distance horse in the UK. Of course Sky Lantern's emphatic victory in the Coronation Stakes was a big highlight. Further highlights were the two pungent successes for the Lady Cecil team in the shape of wins for Riposte and Thomas Chippendale after the sad death of Sir Henry Cecil the previous week. Unfortunately Thomas Chippendale died of a heart-attack suddenly after winning the Hardwicke on Saturday. However, the main highlight of Royal Ascot 2013 had to be Estimate winning the Gold Cup on Thursday. The 4 year old filly became the first winner of the Gold Cup (first ran 1807) to be owned by a reigning monarch and of course Estimate was owned by Her Majesty The Queen. Estimate also provided jockey Ryan Moore (dual champion jockey) with his first Gold Cup victory.

These are just a few highlights of the ever popular Royal Ascot festivities. Sky Lantern won the Coronation Stakes; War Command won the Coventry Stakes. Perhaps, the most ‘celebrity’ win came with Queen Elizabeth’s horse Estimate winning the Gold Cup. Sole Power won the King’s Stand Stakes; Declaration Of War won the Queen Anne Stakes; Dawn Approach won the St. James Palace Stakes.
