Do you know the title or any other details of an old French film about a man who visited spas.?

Question

Shown on UK television some time between 1974 and 1979 alongside films by Truffaut and Jean Luc Godard. I think he may have gone to Lake Baikal and perhaps Russia towards the end and may have been a travelling salesman.

Update:

Sorry, I didn't know that Lake Baikal is in Siberia. It isn't the Marienbad film, although that was a really good suggestion and the websites quoted look interesting. I will probably watch that one too.
