as of the moment, ill be studying online in a california school but moving towards new york. the question is, how does it work over there?i see that out of state residents cost 450 per unit. but ill be moving to my mom who has been in new york for more than a year also(working visa). would that help me out? how does grants work over there?i am currently in a community college. how expensive would it be to go to a university over there and also to a community college.

You will have to live with your mother as a NON-STUDENT for at least 12 months before you'll be considered for in-state tuition. How long she has lived there is irrelevant as she isn't the student in question. If you begin attending as an out-of-state student, you will remain so for each year that you attend.

Grants work the same, except New York has the TAP Program available to residents as well.

You're not a NY resident so you'll be paying out-of state tuition.
