    Fertilization is a whole separate process. Meiosis only produces the gametes.

    but in meiosis, the cell divides twice, meiosis 1 division of the homologous chromosomes being the one that makes the cells haploid. meiosis 2 is where the sister chromatids separate (just like mitosis)
