Windows Vista STILL installs 18 updates in 2013 - WHY !!?

I swear I am never to buy another MSFT product again - my laptop is @ 3 years old and it STILL gets 10 to 20 updates a week - what the heck MSFT!!!!!?????

I'd imagine they're primarily security updates, malware removals, and driver updates. Would you really prefer that they stop releasing improvements, fixing security holes that are found, and removing malware as its developed, just because they released a new version of the operating system?
