hi... i would need a help in excel for windows 7.when i enter a number like 4.1, it converted into 4.jan.why?

how i can switch off this automatic convertion?


it is excel 2007.

    Ok, so figured out an answer right click the cell and click "format cells" then make sure you are in the"Number" tab up the top and there should be a list under the sub heading "category" select the "text" category then click "ok". your 4.1 should stay as 4.1 now. However this only applies to the cell which was selected so to do more highlight multiple cells and then repeat the steps above.

    Excel automatically accepts numbers that can be a date as a date. You can change the formatting to whatever you like.

    My version of Excel changes 4-1 to a date but not 4.1. You can change this to (or from) your method with FILE > OPTIONS > PROOFING > AUTOCORRECT OPTIONS
