Why isnt Cary Elwes in the other SAW movies?

I have never seen the SAW movies but I have heard that they are really good. I am a big fan of Cary Elwes but I would like to know why he is only in 2 of them? Did he die in the first one then come back? Did he go into hiding? I mean what happened? He in the first one and then 5 movies later he just pops back in the last one.

He didn't want to be in all of them. He only came back for the final one because the fans wanted to see him again. That's really it.
