Does "builded" exist ?

I am an English teacher in Germany and came up with a sentence like

They built the bridge in 1888....

One of my students is "sort of bilingual" since her father is American, said

she would never say it like this and used BUILDED instead.

Are there really regions in the States where you would still use "BUILDED" an old form

as if the verb were still a regular verb. I cannot imagines.

Thanks for comments.
