Drug related felony question?

okay, at 17, i was arrested and expelled from school due to possession of pills. i am now 18 and serving a 1 1/2 year of probation. just recently, i completed highschool through summer courses and i want to attend college but my financial issues are a bit of a problem. i heard that since i have a drug related felony, it exempts me from government financial assistance such as student loans? what to do now...

Having a felony doesn't bar you from all assistance. This is from the U.S. Department of Educations website:

"If your eligibility for federal student aid has been suspended due to a drug conviction, you can regain eligibility early by successfully completing an approved drug rehabilitation program or by passing two unannounced drug tests administered by an approved drug rehabilitation program. If you regain eligibility during the award year, notify your financial aid office immediately so you can get any aid you’re eligible for."

    Plus there are scholarships...
