What is your opinion of the U.S. Postal Service's future?

I don't understand why their financial trouble other than their rates being low, in my opinion. The only other thing I've observed are huge facilities (big overhead) and few employees. I understand that starting in August, no more Saturday delivery. What direction are we headed regarding mail?

The long term situation is that email and the internet have eliminated the need for most first class mail. There's still a need to deliver packages, but the Post Office already faces some stiff competition in that area. At some point, will there still be a need for a government-run post office?
