Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flowcharts and diagrams.

A cloud service has three distinct characteristics that differentiate it from traditional hosting. It is sold on demand, typically by the minute or the hour; it is elastic -- a user can have as much or as little of a service as they want at any given time; and the service is fully managed by the provider (the consumer needs nothing but a personal computer and Internet access). Significant innovations in virtualization and distributed computing, as well as improved access to high-speed Internet and a weak economy, have accelerated interest in cloud computing.

CloudVelocity provides hybrid cloud software which can migrate your existing applications into the public cloud with no application modification needed and with a high level of security and control in the cloud.

Cloud computing is is typically defined as a type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications.

In cloud computing, the word cloud (also phrased as "the cloud") is used as a metaphor for "the Internet," so the phrase cloud computing means "a type of Internet-based computing," where different services — such as servers, storage and applications — are delivered to an organization's computers and devices through the Internet.

Cloud computing is an upcoming paradigm that offers tremendous advantages in economical aspects, such as reduced time to market, flexible computing capabilities, and limitless computing power. To use the full potential of cloud computing, data is transferred, processed and stored by external cloud providers. However, data owners are very skeptical to place their data outside their own control sphere.

I know about a thesis regarding cloud computing. I hope this will help you.

Cloud Computing: the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.

Cloud computing is managing your applications and data using a service provider. Where u may have to or not pay for the services. Ex. Gmail is a cloud app, drive is a cloud app. But if u want ur enterprise apps to be hosted on a dedicated server and just have to pay for the maintenance costs compared to the legacy costs of storage space..cooling towers etc. U may have to opt for cloud service providers like microsoft azure..aws..google who provide provate clod..public cloud..hybrid cloud services to ur business needs and u only have to pay for what u r using. This is comparitively cheaper if u have to host the servers in ur workplace and have to look after maintenance as well. Cloud simplifies ur data & app management..hardware needs and can help from small to large scale business. Hope this helps.

Cloud computing is when you connect to remote servers to do the heavy lifting and calculations instead of doing the work on your local machine

The servers can be located in your building and operated by your company (private cloud) or may exist as virtual machines on a service like Amazon, which rents space on their web of servers.

The old idea of "1 task - 1 server" led to rooms of servers all working at about 10% load. It was a huge waste of hardware and energy

With memory getting cheaper and processors more powerful, it became possible to do what up till then had only been able to happen on the "big iron" mainframes of HP and IBM. Run virtual machines that existed in software rather than hardware.

The one physical server might host a dozen virtual servers, each server doing a task like e-mail or file storage or database.

    That was what started it.

Now with high speed global communications, it really does not matter that much where the physical server is.

You hook up to the network and your data is there on your desktop.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell

What is cloud computing? Everyone in the technology world is talking about it… and a lot of people in the business world are asking the same question, “What is cloud computing, and what does it mean for my business?”

Cloud computing platforms are growing in popularity, but why? What unique advantages does a cloud computing architecture offer to companies in today’s economic climate? And what just what is cloud computing, anyway?” Let’s explore the cloud computing infrastructure and its impact on critically important areas to IT, like security, infrastructure investments, business application development, and more.

Most IT departments are forced to spend a significant portion of their time on frustrating implementation, maintenance, and upgrade projects that too often don’t add significant value to the company’s bottom line. Increasingly, IT teams are turning to cloud computing technology to minimize the time spent on lower-value activities and allow IT to focus on strategic activities with greater impact on the business.

Cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive, it is just an allegory for the Internet.
