For one, it'd look awesome. Two, I have purple/red hair with pale white skin and blue eyes, so trust me. I was sky blue when I went red, but you can go both ways. Plus it's great you're wanting a DEEP color and you already have dark hair. Red hair however, is extremely hard to keep vibrant, mostly at first.
Think of a each strand of hair being like a tiny straw. When you put color on it, it coats the outside and the base of the straw. The more you color it, the deeper the color will go and once the straw is filled, it will stay that color. So at first, your color won't last that long, but eventually(took me about 5 months) you're hair will stay red. However, the tint will leave the more you wash it. I suggest getting dry shampoo, not extremely cheap stuff either. Bed Heads dry shampoo(about $18 or something) works well for me...also baby powder works amazingly but will lighten your roots if you clump it on or put too much. Also, buy some sulfate-free shampoo and wash your hair in warm or lukewarm water. And trust me, it's normal to go a month without washing your hair. Just tie your hair up and wash off your body to stay clean!
Also note, whether you go to a salon or buy box(salon preferably), when picking out your color, DON'T go for the one you want it to look like. Since your hair is already dark, go for a lighter shade of red. Maybe 2 or 3? If you put the color you want on it, it will more than likely turn out how it already looks, just with a red tint. Since your hair is dark, if you go for a lighter red, it will lighten your hair a bit for you without having your hair bleached. (Vice versa with light hair.) When my hair was sky blue, I told my stylist to put some black in, which resulted in me not having medium red hair, but dark red/purple hair. (The purple came from my hair being already blue.)
Hope i helped and best of luck!
