Faulty Electrical switch? or did I fry the switch?

I tried to install a programmable timer switch for a laundry fan. (single pole install - blue (load) back (line) ) When I first installed it I turned the breaker/power "back on" and it kept popping the breaker. So I checked the switch again and found black and blue were not installed correctly. So I corrected lines but switch did not work—nothing. So is this a faulty switch? or did I fry the switch? (also reinstalled the old switch back in and it works fine)
