He told me to stop drinking, lose weight, reduce my fat intake, and take medication to control my cholesterol and triglycerides. Ignoring this and continuing to live the 'bad" life could cause me to possibly need a liver transplant if I don't change my current diet and stop drinking. I treated this as a wake up call and stopped drinking alcohol and cut down on my fats in my diet. He sent me to a specialist that treats this fatty liver condition. The specialist basically told me what my regular doctor said plus noted I'm 40 pounds overweight and it would be to my benefit to lose this excess weight. She did do additional blood tests and said she would call me if anything showed up that needed attention. I did not hear from her so I can only assume my blood tests were normal. I go back to both doctors in about 6 weeks for a recheck. What else can I do to keep this condition from getting worse? What can I do to promote a healthy liver? What experiences have you had with this and what did you do to keep it in check or have it get better?
