My personal favorite book is What's Eating Gilbert Grape by Peter Hedges. It's a bit mature with sex and whatnot, but to me it is a must-read. It was also made in to a movie with Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of book you are looking for, so here are several lists for all tastes.

    Young Adult:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

    The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

    The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

    The Host by Stephanie Meyer

    Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

    Divergent by Veronica Roth

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

    Matched by Allie Condie

    Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia

    Romance:

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

    Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris

    Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

Playing With Fire by Gena Showalter

    Literary Fiction:

The Edge of the Earth by Christina Schwarz

    Equilateral by Ken Kalfus

The Mothers: A Novel by Jennifer Gilmore

    Virgin Soul by Judy Juanita

The Accused by Joyce Carol Oates

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki

Falling to Earth by Kate Southwood

    Supernatural/Fantasy:

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

    Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Halfway to the Grave by Jeanine Frost

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

The Door in the Hedge by Robin McKinley

    Bound by Donna Jo Napoli

    Ash by Malinda Lo

    Enjoy!
