What's the difference between an Alaskan ruger 454 casull and a regular Alaskan Ruger 454?

You mean the Ruger Super Redhawk "Alaskan" vs the "standard" Ruger Super Redhawk (both models have a .454 casull chambering). The "Alaskan" model is a variant of the Ruger Super Redhawk that has a 2.5" barrel. All Super Redhawks are offered in .44 mag, .480 Ruger, and .454 Casull.
Why would you need a 2.5" barrel revolver for such powerful calibers in Alaska? I am going to guess that in Alaska there are occasions where it may not be desirable to carry a full size handgun, but biggest threat to you safety might still be a grizzly bear.

..a lot of people who live there are always in bear country, etc. Most used to carry a 44. Now they carry something a little stronger...454, 460, 500. This model is a touch more compact.
