If America was founded on Liberty/freedom, why do Americans support socialism over capitalism?

Capitalism is better than Socialism.

Christianity is better than Atheism.

Yep, our forefathers just wasted their money on roads, canals, colleges, and the postal service.

As Americans, we enjoy the benefits of both systems. While America is considered one of the most succesful Capitalist countries that has ever existed, we also enjoy things like public roads, libraries, education, police, fire-fighters, public parks, the military, justice system, social security, medicare, etc...all of which are publicly funded and government implemented (Socialism).

America was founded on liberty, justice, and equality. These principles don't always mesh well, and it's our continuing duty to elect people into office who represent our ideas of how to prioritize and implement the liberty, justice, and equality that we all deserve.

Even better than Capitalism, Socialism, Christianity, or Atheism...is a society that allows all of those ideologies to bring something to the table. THAT is what this country was founded on - from the many, one. E Pluribus Unum.

The Socialist ideology is a theory , fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality. Under socialism, incentives either play a minimal role or are ignored totally. A centrally planned economy without market prices or profits, where property is owned by the state, is a system without an effective incentive mechanism to direct economic activity. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail. Socialism is based on the theory that incentives don't matter!

In my opinion Communism is an extreme form of Socialism..

I support a little bit of both Capitalism and Socialism together like before 911. It is better than the feudal/fascist system we just started living under recently.

No one should be forced to be a Christian. It should be a choice.

Couple of thoughts. They aren't Americans. Capitalism isn't freedom. Neither is socialism.

Very few Americans have any clue or care about what America was founded upon.

Consider; 4 years ago the "youth vote" Obama got was from people born AFTER Soviet Union collapsed. They are kinda ignorant. That's pretty scary if you think about it for a minute.

Both capitalism and socialism suck. And Americans are pretty much considered by the rest of the developed world as the most stupid nation.(Of the developed world of course.)

Not my opinion, just get in contact with other nationalities you'll hear it eventually.

As I've said: "SOCIALISM! The only ISM that works!"

Capism is long extinct, cf Oct 29, 1929.

Xtianity allowed Slavery in the US and the genocide of the Indians; it's hopelessly morally bankrupt.

socialism provides a safety net. without it, some people might starve. people born with a handicap, would be really screwed. capitalism caused the great depression. read a dickens novel.

    1) Socialism is better.

    2) I don't care what the founding fathers intended.
