There is actually great contention on this point in the realm of theoretical physics. Some believe that time is no more an illusion constructed by conscious minds to help make sense of our lives and others think its inherently imbedded into the very fabric of reality. It is true that time is extremely relative depending on what you're doing and where you are in the universe. If you went for a ride in a space ship to the nearest black hole and stopped just outside the event horizon and started zooming around the black hole at near the speed of light time would move normally for you, but to someone looking at you for a few million. Miles away would see you in slow motion. When you came back to earth you would notice that everyone is much older than you. Because relative to the earth, time near that black hole moved much slower, effectively making it so you traveled forward in time. While its not true time travel it does make you think about the nature of time.
