--急--be in for 的相關翻譯

(1)

Ted knew he was in for a lecture from his mother when he saw his low grades.

(2)

When Joe saw the dark clouds in the sky, he knew he was in for some heavy rain.

(3)

The audience knew they were in for a treat the minute the magician got on the stage.

(4)

I didn't know I was in for a surprise; I thought it was just another regular day at work.

本身是有翻譯啦@_@ 只是不曉得 文意對不對...

希望各位大大們 可以助我一點 ... ((不要google翻譯喔><)

Update:

我有一個問題喔@_@ 像是這個句子

When Joe saw the dark clouds in the sky, he knew he was in for some heavy rain.

當Joe看到天空一片陰暗的雲,他就知道他注定要遭到一場豪雨。

我想問的是...

這是 一個"預期"他會遭受到一場豪雨((即將發生))

還是 Joe早就遭受到一場豪雨了((就是豪雨真的發生了))

這種 be in for 是用來 表示 預期即將要遭受免除不了的事情

還是 真的遭受到了此事??

還是 要看句子的前後文 判斷呢 ^^ 謝謝︿︿

    All 4 sentences have a common phrase, "be in for".

    This is a phrase, it means "about to be affected by something, especially something unpleasant"

    If you want to translate it, it can be translated as "要遭到, 免不了遭受,參加". In the 4 sentences you have, "要遭到, 免不了遭受" is more suitable.

    By the way, "in" is an adverb in this phrase, the sentence led by "for" is an adjective phrase.

    For translating as "參加", it is like:

    My cousin is in for armed robbery.

    2013-05-17 22:21:48 補充:

    Sorry! I think this 3rd sentence you have can be translated as "參加"

    2013-05-19 00:02:21 補充:

    For "be in for", its meaning is defined, you cannot change its meaning. However, the context of the sentence will depend upon how people want to express it. Yes, you are right, it will depend upon the context.

    also, you have such a question is because you translate it into Chinese, as far as the English sentence itself is concerned. Due to its tense and context, there is NO such a situation in your description.

    2013-05-19 00:04:43 補充:

    This is the reason why I always suggest people TRY TO understand English in English, NOT in Chinese. After all, while translating, the original meaning can get altered due to essential difference between two languages.

    2013-05-19 00:07:54 補充:

    For example, in Chinese, "我吃了西瓜", with "了", we know the action is done. However, in English, such a done action, can be expressed as "I ate", "I have eaten".

    2013-05-19 00:10:38 補充:

    Besides, in English, it can also tell people when the melon was eaten, now or before. Yet, in Chinese, we have no idea, unless we use "昨天" or "今天" to describe the time of action. This kind of fundamental difference between languages is the reason why you shall not translate to understand it.

    2013-05-19 01:53:14 補充:

    To learn English well, you need to use mind to FEEL it, not your brain to memorize it. After all, language is a TOOL for us to express our "7 emotion states, 6 desires" (7情6慾). Hence, memorizing will NOT do the job, but get the feeling of it.

    2013-05-19 01:55:36 補充:

    Also, don't rush yourself through it, take you time to get that feeling. There is NO quick fix, but just step by step to slowly learn it well.

    English explanatory remarks are simple to understand:-

    (1)in for=inside for a reprihend;

    (2)in for=in the weather for rain heavily;

    (3)in for=joining in for entertained treating;

    (4)in for=involved in for surprise.
