How do we get out of getting served a witness subpoena?

Our nieghbor friend was arrested out of her apartment for a dui. She asked us to lie andsay we had been drinking with her in the building that night to prove she hadnt been out driving and got drunk at home. When we told her we did not want to lie under oath for her she became angry and said it was too late she already added us to the witness list and if we refused we would be subpoenaed. Since we arent going to lie for her we are of no/ help as witnesses so how do we keep from getting subpoened?

You don't but you make sure she knows if you get subpoenaed you will be a VERY hostile to her case. "your honor she's such a deluded drunk she asked us to lie for her and when we refused she dragged us to court to confirm her DUI was justified". "No she wasn't drinking with us nor will she ever in the future and you can be sure if she drives home drunk we'll get her on video driving up and exiting her car before we call the police on her for her next DUI".

You may be subpoenaed to testify, but you are required to be truthful.

Witnesses are seldom called in a DUI case.

Well you can testify that she asked you to lie or that you know she came home drunk but that would probably make her verdict guilty

She's hung you out to dry, putting your name forward like that. You can do what's advised above or take a long vacation with no one knowing where you are, to avoid being served. You owe her nothing...

You can't. Go to court and tell the truth. She could get jail time and a hefty fine.
