Weird powder all over new shirt?

Just bought a new shirt that I never wore before and I shook it out when I took it off and all this whitish powder went flying everywhere including my eyes... I then also noticed white powder looking stuff all over my undershirt as well from the new shirt. I wasn't around anything this something in the fabric?

Sounds like heavy sizing in the fabric -- it's a starch like substance called methyl cellulose. Used to make fabrics sew better and look better on the hanger. This shirt may wash up into a limp rag... hang on to the receipt.
