1)

5x - 3(4 - x) =

distribute:

5x - 12 + 3x =

combine like terms:

8x - 12

2)

5x + 3xy - 5x = 3xy

not equivalent to 7xy - 4y

1) No

5x-12+3x

8x-12 does not equal 2x-12

2) 5x+3xy-5x=3xy

3xy does not equal 7xy-4y

1) 5x-12+3x which is 8x-12...so no.

2) 5x + 3xy - 5x = 3xy....and this does not equal 7xy-4y.
