Should I go to Community College to take gen eds?

I'm a Senior in high school and want to go into Design Engineering.

As of now, I'm going to UIC this fall for Industrial Design.

I do NOT think that this is the best next step toward D.E. I want to take Math, Chem, Physics, engineering, and Finance at my community college, CLC, which is a very good community college.

This would save me a tone of money and I wouldn't be living somewhere else to make less progress.

Should I back out of UIC before it's too late?

Update:

Exactly the argument my parents will make, but I'm not moving somewhere and paying 40,000 a year for a social atmosphere. I can't just put myself in a track and expect things to happen. I don't care about "the college experience." This is education for my career and I want some advice before I confront my parents about this.

Community College is boring. No student life, no parties, no atmosphere.
