When you trade in a game, they'll first check for scratches on the disc. If it looks fine, then they'll take it. They'll ask if you want cash or credit. Credit being a higher value but you can only use that credit in GameStop stores, no where else. They will eventually check if your games work, but by then, if you disc looks clean and fine, but it doesn't work, you're home free.

Yes but not all the games, they look at the disc fire to see if and how bad it's scratched

If they think its bad enough when they check they look to see if it works if it doesn't work they give you the game back

Also GameStop only gives you like 5-10 % back on games

If they don't check immediately they check before they put them on the shelves.

And they obviously get your information so they just call you and charge your credit card or whatever.

they look at the disk and determine if they will need to send it off to get it repaired, if it does need a repair, they will not give you as much for the game, I don't know an exact amount they take off though
