Solve tan3x = sqrt(3)? For homework?

    tan3x = sqrt(3)

    3x = arctan(sqrt(3))

    arctan(sqrt(3)) isn't too hard to figure out. Just think about what angle gives you sqrt(3)/1. Tangent deals with y/x. Therefore, we can deduce that the angles for which this is true are pi/3 radians and 4pi/3 radians.

    3x = pi/3 ------------ x = pi/9

    3x = 4pi/3 ---------- x = 4pi/9

    tan3x = sqrt(3) = tan60 degrees

    x = 20 degrees = pi/9 radians
