You only need an agent if you're going to work professionally and professional acting is a business. And it involves a lot more than just getting an agent. So you really might want to consider doing more research and learning the business end of the industry before you worry about finding an agent. If you're a minor, your parents HAVE to be involved.

Legitimate agents are paid on commission, getting a percentage of what their clients make. (Never pay an agent up front.) Since they are paid only if their clients are paid, they are picky about who they take on as clients. And they can be picky because there are a lot more people wanting to be actors than there are roles. So, you can't just go out and hire an agent. It's more like they choose you.

The best way to get an agent is through networkings. So talk to your acting teachers/coachers, directors you 've worked with, other actors and the like. Maybe you're impressed someone enough with your skills that they'd be willing to refer you to an agent. Acting schools/programs with good reputations often attract agents to their showcases where students perform and you can attract the attention of an agent that way. Otherwise, you can try blind submissions, but they're not particularly effective (especially for adults).

You can get a list of legitimate agents from the SAG/AFTRA websites and from industry trade websites like backstage.com:

    http://www.sagaftra.org/agency-relations/sag-franc...

    http://www.sagaftra.org/agency-relations/aftra-fra...

    http://www.backstage.com/resources/search/agent/

Research and find out whether they accept submissions and how they want them. Then you can submit your head shot and resume to them. If they're interested, they'll contact you about an interview/audition. If you don't hear anything back, they're not interested in you at this time.

    Good luck.

Adequate to begin with, sag aftra will not be an agency. It's an performer's union. Display Actor's Guild - The American Federation of tv and Radio Artists (no i didn't google this). I dont are living in Philly, so i can't reccomend any in philly, but I reside in the big apple, the place agencies are at my fingertips. I encourage you to take the two hour pressure down and in finding an agent right here. There are a giant amount, so you could google them, make an appointment, and hope they such as you. And sure, explore skill is a rip-off. Been there, carried out that.
