He's put on trial for being accused of raping one of the Ewells daughters, and Atticus, Scout and Jems father, is his lawyer. Atticus believes he will loose the trial, and he claims theres nothing he can do about it. The town and everyone in it, including their family, calls Atticus a '****** lover' to scout and jem. And Scout sees it as her tme to fight with her cousin Francis. But when anyone else trys to make her mad she does what her father said and walks away, causing more tormenting. Hope this helps.Source(s): Reading the book now in class
