What does 'special admit' mean in college?

I'm in college currently, I didn't just get accepted. On my academic record under 'Admission' it says 'Special Admit' right next to it. At first I got a rejection letter because the the admissions office didn't have my best score and I was awarded with a large award, then I was on the waiting list, then a friend of my mom's who worked at the university pushed for me to be admitted I believe. What instance do you think gave me the 'Special Admit' tag? The waiting list, the appeal, or the inside connections.

Probably the inside connections. But it really doesn't matter. Once you're in, you're in, and you'll be the same as any other student there, so congratulations!

Your initial application didn't meet their standards.........................DUH!
