I worked in a restaurant for ten years, although not as a chef or cook. Watching the chefs, it always seemed they were stressed out and it's not easy work. There's a lot more to it then just cooking. They are an important part of running the restaurant. It's a business job, really. And working in the kitchen environment really sucks, let me just tell you that straight up. If you really want to be a chef, then don't let me stop you, but I don't think it's that great of a job, personally. I say just make a huge long list of careers and browse jobs available on line and then take note of the ones that especially stand out.
