Who is the registered agent of Bank of New York Mellon in New York?
This bank must have a registered agent somewhere in New York for the purpose of serving legal papers on it, in New York. Who knows who the registered agent is or where in New York government offices that information is kept and available?

I'd start with the state corporation commission. They should have that information.

Make an appointment with MNY Mellon. Tell them you want to discuss your holdings. It will not cost you anything to sit down with them. Chevron is a most excellent stock, and unlike most, it is probably in your best interests to just sit on the stock. The stock symbol is CVX. Go to Yahoo finance, and type in CVX to see the preformance of Chevron. You will be asked to show identification of yourself before they reveal any information regarding the account. You can do it over the phone, they will ask you for info like your social security number. It is interesting that you don't know how many shares you own, this should have been made available to you at the reading of the will, or living trust.
