How can I get stronger than I already am?

I've been trying to get really strong for a while now. I started about 2-4 months ago and I've been doing about 50-60 push-ups (not all at once. I usually do about 20/30 and then stop for 30 seconds, then do 10-20 more and repeat the process until I've done 50-60 total). I usually do about 20/30 and then stop for 30 seconds, then do 10-20 more and repeat the process until I've done 50-60 total). I do this Monday-Thursday, take a break on Friday (maybe Saturday, too) and then on Sunday. Since about a week ago, I've been doing doing about 20 chin-ups every night that I do push-ups, as well. I'm also on the Track/Field team, but I'm not the best runner. I have been doing this exactly as I said and I've gotten a lot stronger, but the "increase in strength" has been slowing down. How am I supposed to get stronger? Have I hit the max or am I just doing something wrong? It seems like it's going by really slowly since a couple weeks ago.
