That would depend upon the location. I'm sure there are some McDonald's that make as much as, if not more, in a year than a 5 star restaurant, once you take costs, wages and other expenses into account. The food products at McDonald's or other fast food restaurants will cost less than high end meats, seafoods, fresh seasonal vegetables, top end wine and liquors, etc.... Also, the average fast food employee makes a lot less than a waiter, host or chef at an upscale restaurant. Most fast food places have longer hours, so have more time to make money than a restaurant that might only be open for dinner service. While the fancy place might take in more money overall, I would bet that the fast food place actually makes a higher profit.
